In this video we’ll go over a simple yet comprehensive way to track your most important types of business data so that you can better manage your business and make sure that everything is running as smoothly and profitably as possible.
Be sure to watch the previous video in order to see how to run the reports needed to get this information, as well as to understand why this is so important to making your business a
How to Use This Report
The Know Your Numbers Spreadsheet is a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, but can also be opened up and used with Google Docs. By tracking the data in this spreadsheet, you will be able to see how different tactics/strategies/other factors affect the performance of your business.
While it may take some time to become familiar with these numbers and what type of
adjustments (if any) you might make when you see things, you should still begin tracking it as soon as possible so that you have it available later on. Some of these data points can only be obtained by gathering them each day, so if you do not begin tracking them early on you will not have access to all of the data later.
There are three sections to the spreadsheet, each listed on separate tabs:
This tab keeps track of your sales by day for each product. The key pieces of information can be found in the “Detail Page and Sales Traffic by ASIN” report found under the “Business Reports” in Seller Central. It will help you see trends in sales volume, as well as how well your products are converting.
For each product, you populate the Units Ordered, Gross Product Sales, Sessions, Buy Box
Percentage, and Unit Session Percentage.
If you forget to start populating the data for this report, you can always go back in time and
populate it by adjusting the date range on the “Detail Page and Sales Traffic by ASIN” report.
This tab keeps track of several key pieces of product information for each day. The primary
source is the “Inventory Health Report” under the “Fulfillment Reports” section in Amazon.
Since that report can only show you information for the specific point in time that it is ran, it’s
important to run this each day around the same time (if possible). You will also need to
manually check your product’s sales rank (BSR) from your product detail page.
For each product you populate the Available Units, Your Sales Price, and Sales Rank (BSR). It will automatically calculate the Available Inventory in Dollar Value for you. Please note that the “Your Sales Price” should be what your product is selling for that day whenever you or anyone goes to your product detail page. It won’t include any “Promotion” pricing however, since only customers who enter a promo code would get that discount.
This final tab summarizes several key pieces of data in order to get a weekly view of how your products are performing. Once it is complete, you will want to either save a new version of the spreadsheet that contains the information for the week you are reporting on, or create a new tab for each week’s data.
Sales in Units and Sales in Dollars
This section tracks the total sales in both units and dollars for our products. It will automatically chart that data into the graphs below them.
You can obtain this data from the “Detail Page and Sales Traffic – By ASIN” report.
Weekly Totals in Units & Dollars for Previous 4 Weeks
This section will track the total sales by both units and dollars for the previous 4 weeks, and will also automatically chart the data below it. This data also comes from the “Detail Page and Sales Traffic – By ASIN” and is very helpful for seeing trends over the past month.
Product Sales & Sessions
This section will track the units ordered and sessions by day, so that you can determine how well your products are converting when customers visit your product detail page. To get this
information, you will need to use the “Detail Page and Sales Traffic – By ASIN” report.
Product Buy Box & Unit Sessions
This section will track how often your product has the Buy Box and what the corresponding Unit Session Percentage was each day. This data also comes from the “Detail Page and Sales Traffic –By ASIN” report.
Even though you may not be to the point where you think this data will be of value to you, you still want to do your best and start tracking it now. This would be a great job to hand to a VA once you have done it yourself and can show them what to do. However, you should become very familiar with the data inside of it (you will get to know it better over time), because it will be a key component towards helping you optimize your business for maximum profits.
